Summer Office Assistant Position Description (1 position available)

The Front Desk Summer Office Assistants are members of the Office of Housing and Residence Life Staff.  Staff members are responsible for the daily operations of the front desk and for assisting the professional Housing Staff with various tasks.  Summer Office Assistant Staff training will take place in May.  Exact training dates will be scheduled after the selection process is complete.  Staff members are required to attend training sessions.

May 13 – August 31, 2009
 
Qualifications
  1. Applicant must have a 2.0 GPA at time of application.
  2. Applicant must be in good judicial standing with the University and the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
  3. Applicants must be computer literate, able to work in a fast paced team environment, and exhibit exceptional customer service skills and professionalism. 
  4. All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist students, parents, summer conference and related guests with housing information.
  2. Maintain the daily upkeep of the front office.
  3. Process housing applications and contracts.
  4. Maintain student files.
  5. Collect payments and log all financial transactions.
  6. Perform other tasks assigned by the Office Manager and other professional housing staff.
  7. Commit to a full-time work schedule  Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM).
  8. Answer a multi-line telephone.
  9. Send out mass mailings.
  10. Work in a team environment.
* OA primary responsibilities will be at the Office of Housing and Residence Life; however, OAs are expected to perform CA responsibilities as needed.
 
Remuneration
  1. This is a non-salaried full-time position.  Summer Office Assistants (OAs) will be paid $6.50 per hour.  Summer Office Assistants will work 40-hours a week at the front desk in the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
  2. Every Summer Office Assistant will receive summer housing during the length of her/his full-time summer employment.  Summer Staff may need to relocate to another building/room during the summer to accommodate needed repairs/maintenance or early arrivals for the fall semester.
  3. Every Summer Office Assistant will receive a staff T-shirt to be worn during desk hours, special check-in days, and other functions as directed.
  4. Should a Summer Office Assistant staff member be terminated or resign from her/his   position for any reason, she/he will be expected to vacate GMU campus housing within 24 hours.
