Assistant Manager Information Technology: Web Development
Position Function Statement:
The Assistant Manager of Information Technology-Web Development is a professional who is primarily responsible for all aspects of web development within the Office of Housing and Residence Life (OHRL). This includes, but is not limited to; collaborating with OHRL staff to implement designs for graphics and Web page layouts. This position will help ensure that the department is current with applicable developing technology and compliant with George Mason University’s computing requirements. This position is also responsible for serving as a back up for the Assistant Manager Information Technology: System Administrator.
Supervisor: Assistant Director for Housing Services
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Bachelor’s degree in computer science, marketing, web development, management information systems, or related discipline or an approved equivalency.
2) Three years post degree, full time experience.
3) Demonstrated experience in web design and development. Must be able to exhibit a portfolio of public-facing Web sites.
4) Proficiency with coding related to web development and design. This includes, but is not limited to, ASP, HTML, XHTML, Javascript and PHP.
5) Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated success with customer service and satisfaction.
6) Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
7) Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
8) Proven ability to manage time effectively.
9) Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
10) Ability to work collaboratively in a team oriented environment.
Desired Qualifications: Experience providing support for large Web sites; experience using Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver; knowledge of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and accessibility guidelines for Web sites; experience in a University housing office.
RESPONSIBILITIES : The Assistant Manager of Information Technology-Web Development at George Mason University fulfills three primary areas within the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Responsibilities fall into the categories of Web Development, Application Administration, and Desktop Support/Special Projects.
Web Development (45% of time)
The Assistant Manager of Information Technology is expected to:
a. Develop an user-friendly, visually appealing Office of Housing and Residence Life website that meets the needs of the department. This includes, but is not limited to improving functionality of existing website to create a virtual housing office that is updated on a regular basis.
b. Develop virtual room/facility tours and interactive floor plans.
c. Improve functionality of the studentweb and eLiving websites to increase user-friendliness of sites.
d. Assist staff in development of Web sites that enhance the mission of the university and department.
e. Develop and implement Web sites that allow all level of staff to better serve the needs of students.
f. Serve as a liaison for University Card office.
Application Administration (30% of time)
The Assistant Manager of Information Technology is expected to:
a. Assist with general application administration for access control system (B.A.S.I.S.).
b. Assist in the development of an instruction manual for access control system (B.A.S.I.S.) for staff.
c. Assist with general application administration for housing management system (Residential Management System-RMS).
d. Assist in the development of reports in the Residential Management System..
e. Assist with general application administration for Qquest, Judicial Action, and Conference Programmer.
f. Assist in the development of an instruction manual for Qquest, Judicial Action, and Conference Programmer for staff.
Desktop Support/Special Projects (25% of time)
The Assistant Manager of Information Technology is expected to:
a. Provide desktop support to staff, including, but not limited to application maintenance and computer imaging.
b. Develop protocols for staff desktop support requests and log support requests.
c. Provide desktop support for computer labs and multi-media rooms located within the residence halls.
d. Assist in the development and implementation of a Technical Service Assistant program.
e. Supervise the Technical Service Assistants. This includes, but is not limited to, recommendations for hiring, termination, training, work allocation, and problem solving.
f. Assist in the development of training programs for all level of staff regarding proper use of technology utilized within the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
g. Adhere to Commonwealth and University guidelines regarding making purchases and financial transactions.
h. Serve in an on-call rotation for after hour/weekend technology emergencies and work with appropriate staff to resolve issues.
i. Some weekend duties required.
j. Other duties as assigned by the director, associate directors or other OHRL staff.
