The Office of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for the development, oversight, and assessment of
the Residential Living Learning Communities and Academic Initiatives in the residence halls.
Our office is located on the ground floor of Potomac Heights.

Living Learning Communities

Living & Learning Communities (LLCs) are residential floors developed by the Office of Housing and Residence Life in conjunction with University academic communities to expand your learning beyond the classroom. They are the backbone of Housing and Residence Life’s Academic Initiatives.

National studies show that students who participate in an LLC tend to become more involved in their communities, have more academic success, and adjust more quickly to the academic and social demands of living at a large university.

The following are available through the Office of Housing and Residence Life (OHRL):

· Academic advising: Prior to peak times, advising may be available on a walk-in basis to answer questions and to offer resources for general academic advising questions, or to offer guidance, depending on your major or college. All of them are frequently available for individual or small group study during the day and on some evenings. The DUCC area has study lounges in Commonwealth and Dominion Halls and the Hanover lounges are available by reservation or walk-in if available.

· Tutoring: A tutor is available in Eisenhower Hall Thursdays from 2:30pm – 4pm. To make an appointment contact Jeff Leaf at jleaf@gmu.edu. This is available to all students taking Engineering 107.

· Other programs include exam week breakfasts and study breaks, study bucks programs, exam review sessions, Career planning sessions, and on-site classes.

· Academic Achievement Banquet: Each Spring the Office of Housing and Residence Life also hosts the Academic Achievement Banquet for students who have achieved a 3.75 GPA in the previous year.
