Summer School Housing

This information is designed to answer any questions you may have about Summer School Housing.

Where do summer school students live?
It is our intent to house 2009 summer school students in Northern Neck Hall. This building provides apartment style living, has a full kitchen and is centrally located to campus. The cost of a single bedroom will be $26 per night and the cost of a double bedroom will be $22 per night. Please note, single spaces are extremely limited.

I don’t live on-campus for the Spring 2009 semester. Can I move in to my summer assignment early?
No. Early arrivals are not permitted during the summer term. Residents may only arrive on the pre-determined check-in dates and times.

How are Summer School Assignments made?
Residents will be given an assignment upon check-in.

I live on-campus for the Spring 2009 semester. Can I stay on-campus until Summer School Housing starts?
If you live on campus during the Spring 2009 semester, you may request Extended Stay housing, allowing you to stay in your space until you can check-into your summer assignment. The cost of Extended Stay housing is $23.50/night for the entire Extended Stay housing period. This charge will not be prorated. The Extended Stay request form is currently available on eLiving (https://housing.gmu.edu/eliving).

  • Extended Stay Housing is available only for Spring 2009 on-campus residents who have reserved Summer School housing for sessions A or B and who need to reside on-campus and/or store belongings at their on-campus residence between the end of the Spring semester and the beginning of their Summer housing.
  • The deadline to request Extended Stay Housing is Friday, May 8, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.
  • The cost for Extended Stay Housing is $94 for students whose summer classes begin Session A and $376 for students whose summer classes begin Session B.

If you have been approved for Extended Stay Housing you will be required to check in when your Summer School space becomes available. This may be before or after the Sunday, May 17, 2009 check in period for Session A.

What are the check -in procedures, and how much will it cost?
All check-ins and check-outs will take place in the Chesapeake Area Desk, located in Peidmont Hall. Session I/X students are also required to adhere to these dates, selecting the time frame that most closely approximates their particular situation. Session I/X students are required to be in class and stay for a minimum of thirty (30) nights.Please refer to the chart below for all of the various check-in and check-out dates.

What services are available for on-campus residents during the Summer Term?

  • Area Desk–During the Summer months, preventative maintenance occurs throughout campus. This may result in temporary interruptions of services. Further, the Area Desk will be open limited hours.
  • Parking Services—The OHRL does not coordinate parking. Please see http://www.gmu.edu/univserv/parking for more information.
  • Dining Services—Please see http://www.gmu.edu/univ_ctr/services/dining for more information
  • Telephone Service—Students must provide their own telephones if they wish to make calls from their residence hall rooms. While local phone service is provided in each room, long distance calls can only be made through calling cards or outgoing collect calls.
