Students who wish to stay in the residence halls for Thanksgiving Break November 24th-28th do not need to fill out a form. The residence halls will remain open throughout the break. Access will not be removed from student's cards in order to enter their assigned building.
Winter Break Housing
For winter break, the residence halls will close at 5:00pm on December 15th and reopen on January 21st. Students must apply for winter break housing in order to retain access to their space. Graduating seniors are eligible to stay until 6:00pm on January 16th. Students will need to check out for the fall semester within 24 hours of their last final, or by 5:00pm on December 15th.
Students who wish to remain on campus for Winter Break will need to submit a Winter Break Housing application in the Housing Portal. The Winter Break Housing application will be made available in November. There is no charge associated with staying in the residence halls over the break however, some students may be relocated to other buildings due to reduced staffing. The Winter Break Housing application will be available beginning at 10:00am on November 8th-December 1st. Students who are not approved for winter break housing will lose access to their assigned space at 5:00pm on December 15. Graduating seniors are approved to stay until 6:00pm on December 16th so they can participate in the graduation ceremonies.
First year students who are approved for winter break housing and live in Presidents Park, Taylor Hall, the Commons, Commonwealth, and Dominion will be assigned a temporary space in the Angel Cabrera Global Center. Buildings that house upper-class students will remain open throughout the break. Students who are returning to housing for Spring 2022 only need to take items that they will need with them during the break, if they are not staying on campus during the break period. Dining options will be limited throughout the break period and students should be prepared to provide their own meals throughout the break. Information regarding dining hours of operation can be found at dining.gmu.edu.
The following first-year areas/halls will be closed throughout winter break. Students who approved for winter break housing and live in one of the areas listed below will be assigned a temporary space in the Angel Cabrera Global Center :
Presidents Park (Adams, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kennedy, Lincoln, Madison, Monroe, Roosevelt, Truman, Taylor, Washington, Wilson)
The Commons (Amherst, Brunswick, Carroll, Dickinson, Essex, Franklin, Grayson)
The following upper-class and mixed housing areas/halls will be open throughout the break. Students who are approved for winter break housing and live in the following buildings will retain access to their assigned space:
- Chesapeake buildings (Blue Ridge, Eastern Shore, Hampton Roads, Northern Neck, Piedmont, Sandbridge, Tidewater)
Students who apply for winter break housing may need to list the timeframe during which they will be on campus, however, should this information change after submitting the application, they do not need to notify housing.
