Paying to Mark Your Place
The housing deposit of $300 is non-refundable. Deposit requirements and instructions vary across different housing application processes, so check a specific housing application for specific instructions. Don't submit a deposit unless you are instructed to do so. The deposit will not be returned during the fall semester and will instead be applied towards the housing charges on your student account.
Deposits can only be made by credit/debit card or e-check. We strongly encourage the credit/debit card option. Returning Mason students and new transfer students will submit their housing deposit through their StarRez account. Incoming freshman students will submit their enrollment deposit and housing deposit to Admissions until May 1. After May 1, incoming freshman students will pay the deposit directly to Housing and Residence Life through the StarRez portal.
During Housing selection, students seeking a deposit waiver will:
- Submit the online request
- Be required to submit paper documentation with his/her FAFSA Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) score.
Deposit waivers are only available for students with an EFC score of $1500 or less. No deposit extensions will be offered. Students will be approved for a waiver or required to pay the $300 deposit.
If no waiver is approved or deposit paid, a selected bed space will be cancelled. Only the bed space for the unpaid deposit will be cancelled.
All other students, with paid deposits or approved waivers within the apartment/suite/room will remain assigned.
