Move-out: Spring 2024

All You Need to Know About Move-out

Residence Halls close on May 8th, 2024

When checking out of the residence halls, residents must complete the following. Failure to complete any of the following steps may result in an additional charge. A sample list of charges may be found here. Housing and Residence Life updates the list of damage charges each May and as such, there may be some variation to the amounts listed here depending upon the severity of damage caused by residents. From April 29 to May 8, Housing & Residence Life student staff will be available between the hours of 9am and 9pm to check residents out of their residential space.

Are you graduating in Spring 2024?

Residents who have applied for graduation for either Spring 2024 or Summer 2024 will be eligible to remain in the residence halls until after their degree celebration. Be sure to check the chart below to know when you will need to check out of the residence halls.

Students who are assisting with graduating (Eagle Bank Arena student staff, Green Machine, etc.) will need to have their supervisors reach out to housing@gmu.edu to request an extension.

Steps for a Successful Check-out

All students who have not been approved for an extended stay will need to complete the move-out process within 24 hours of their last final or by May 8th at 5:00 pm. For Spring 2024,  we are only able to offer an extended stay to graduating seniors, those assisting with commencement exercises, and residents with a summer housing assignment beginning in May. Residents who have a makeup exam on the afternoon of May 8th will need to send a copy of their syllabus or e-mail communication to housing@gmu.edu by April 28 to be granted an extended stay until 9:00 am on May 9.

Move-Out 2024 FAQs

Will green bins be available?

Yes! Residents will be able to pick up a green bin from the Eisenhower and Piedmont desks. Residents should not wait and move out their belongings last minute, as there may be a wait for green bins closer to when the halls close on May 8. It's best to plan your day to avoid the rush.
