How to Avoid Check-out Fees

To do's and dont's to avoid check out fees

1. Remove all belongings completely out of their room/residence hall. Green bins will be available at Piedmont and Eisenhower, however, there may be a wait for one the closer residents wait to the end of the semester

  • We recommend taking larger items home before finally moving out during finals

  • Please note that Housing and Residence Life does not offer move-out assistance

2. Residents need to take out all trash, wipe down all surfaces, and clean their assigned room

  • Dumpsters will be in place late April if residents have any large items they  need to throw away

  • If residents live in a suite or apartment, they should work with their suite/apartment mates to divide up the cleaning of common areas

3. Make sure all furniture in the resident's room is returned to its original location/how it was at move-in

4. Find a student staff member who will be in the check-out location for the resident's residence hall (more information about this will come from your Community Director)

5. Residents will need to go with the student staff member to their room. The staff member will complete a room inspection with the resident

6.Complete the check-out form on the StarRez portal to finish the check-out process

  • Residents will need the name of the student staff member that checked them out to complete this form

  • Residents that live in the Townhouses will need to return their keys to the Piedmont desk after they check-out of your room

If you need to leave between 9pm and 9am, you can complete the check-out form on StarRez and opt to do an express check-out.

Residents who complete an express check-out, will be are waiving their right to appeal any damage charges or improper check-out fees.
