Apply to a Learning Community

Application Process 

Both First-Year and Upper-Level students will be able to apply for their choice of Learning Community via the housing application in the StarRez Housing Portal. The 2023-2024 academic year LC applications go live on Monday, December 12th, 2022.

 

First-Year Students 

When filling out the housing application in the StarRez Housing Portal, First-Year students will be brought to a page that lists information about every First-Year Learning Community offered for the 2023-2024 academic year. 

Students will then be directed to sign an agreement related to Learning Communities, and continue with the rest of the housing application process.

Timeline

The 2023-2024 Academic Year Housing Application will go live on the Housing Portal on December 12th, 2022.

Upper-Level Students 

When filling out the housing application in the StarRez Housing Portal, Upper-Level students will be asked if they are interested in applying to be part of a Learning Community. 

If interested in taking an LC, students will select one community and on the subsequent page, will answer questions about the community they have selected. Students will then be directed to sign an agreement relating to Learning Communities and continue with the rest of the housing application. 

Timeline

  • December 12th - Application goes live

  • February 1st - Application Closes for Upper-Level Students 

  • February 17th - Students are Notified of LC Offer 

  • February 20th - Deadline to Respond to Offer 

  • February 24th - Upper-Level LC Grouping Begins 

Accepting Your LC Offer (For Upper-Level Students Only)

On February 17th, students who applied for Upper-Level Learning Communities will find out if they have been extended an invitation to join the LC. The Upper-Level Learning Community acceptance process can be competitive.

We recommend that students check their emails and accept their offers before the deadline.

By accepting an offer invitation, students will: 

  • Fully participate in floor programs and building events, as well as make a genuine effort to work with and learn from fellow community members and those residing in other LCs 

  • Attend and engage in off-campus programs and excursions when offered 

  • Fulfill the obligations of the signed LC Agreement 

To accept an LC offer, students must complete the following steps by 12pm, on Monday, February 22nd

  1. Log in to the StarRez Housing Portal 

  1. Select your 2023-2024 Housing Application 

  1. Navigate to the “Learning Community Offer” page 

  1. Choose either “Accept Offer” or “Decline Offer” from the dropdown menu 

  1. Click the blue “Respond to Learning Community Offer” button
