Move-in: Fall 2021

All Mason residential and commuter students must have received their COVID-19 vaccine prior to the start of the fall semester. Residential students will be required to have their vaccination information submitted in order to complete the move-in process. Students should check their Mason e-mail account for messages from the Office of the President and Housing and Residence Life regarding the vaccination requirement. Welcome Patriots!

We are excited to welcome you to on-campus housing at George Mason University! To help make your transition to living on campus as smooth as possible, please return to this page often and check your Mason email regularly as the University will continue to update the COVID-19 protocol over the summer.

Beginning at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 1st, all students who have received their fall housing assignment can select their move-in time. First-year students will be receiving assignments starting on Friday, July 9th and will be prompted to sign up for a move-in time in their assignment e-mail.

Upper-level students who need an early arrival option due to on-campus working, arriving from an international location, etc. will be able to complete the early arrival application in the Housing Portal. While applying for early arrival students will have the option of selecting MoveCrew to waive the early arrival fee of $55/night. MoveCrew is a team of student volunteers who work a 5-hour shift on Wednesday, August 18th or Thursday, August19th and help moving in our first-year students.

Move in Tips/Recommendations 

Follow the GMU safety protocol. As of May 29th Mason lifted its mask requirements for all fully vaccinated individuals on campus –except in medical facilities, public transit, child care facilities and in accordance with the Governor’s policy Unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear masks on campus, per the Governor’s new executive order. Masks may be removed while eating, drinking, playing instruments and for other exemptions allowed. 

Pack light. Check out our packing list for ideas on what to bring and items that are not allowed in our residence halls.

Stay hydrated.  Though there will be staff on campus handing out water bottles, we do recommend that you bring a personal water bottle and refill at designated areas. 

Bring Equipment. Hand carts or dollies come in handy. We have a limited supply of green bins available, so we recommend bringing any equipment that may help make your move in process easier!

Check your Mason Email. Over the summer, Housing will be sending emails to students that will be living on campus. Emails will include important information regarding move-in times, parking, Learning Communities and the move-in day process.
