Application Process

Apply for Fall 2021

Housing Selection is the process where current residential students apply to live on campus for the following academic year. All current residential students are welcome to apply, but, due to the high demand, we are unable to guarantee housing for all upperclass students.

Eligibility

In order to live on campus students must meet the following requirements:

  • A full-time undergraduate student

Complete a housing application via StarRez. Your application must be completed no later than February 2, 2021, at 11:59PM. Even if you are not 100% certain that you would like to live on campus, we highly encourage you to fill out an application. Filling out an application does not mean you are guaranteed housing. But, if you don't fill out an application by the deadline if you later decide to live on campus, you will not be considered.

Housing Options

All incoming freshman students will live in a Learning Community. A Learning Community (LC) is a group of students living on campus who share common interests and come together in order to explore their passion areas on a deeper level. Students live together in a residence hall, which allows them to have easy access to their peers and makes the larger Mason community feel smaller. Housing Contracts

Once a housing agreement is signed and the housing deposit is paid, you are locked into the agreement. We advise you not to sign unless you are serious about living on campus.

Room Assignments

Students will be assigned to housing based on their selected Learning Community. There is no guarantee that you will get your first choice, so apply early .

Room Assignments and Roommates

After all housing applications are submitted and approved, you'll have the opportunity to identify your group size and members starting February 26, 2021.

  • Mason encourages students to go into the selection process with one or more buddies as this improves the likelihood of living with friends/compatible suite mates.
  • Groups can be composed of up to six people. You can also go through this process as an individual.
  • Certain types of spaces, such as large apartments and single rooms, are not widely available. Keep your budget in mind, and remember to factor in pricing, location, meal plan requirements, and access to halls over winter break.

Select Your Living Space. Group leaders will choose the space and selection will take place March 1-3. The 2021-2022 Housing Selection FAQ Guide is coming soon!

Exemptions will be accepted for students who will be above the age of 20 by the start of Fall 2021 or who have close residency to campus with a parent or legal guardian. The residence must be within the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William, or Loudoun.

If your exemption is for one of the following reasons, you will need to upload the appropriate documentation when you are completing the exemption request form:

Veteran Status: Copy of DD Form 214, or its equivalent

Deadline to apply for an exemption: May 1, 2021

Request for Special Circumstances

Some reasons include financial or health/medical.

We must receive the completed online application as well as all accompanying documentation no later than May 1, 2021.
